My dear Mr. President:
Owing to the stress
of National affairs, we have refrained from
writing you until the present time; we should
be so much pleased to add your autograph to
those of former Presidents of the United

and various documents in the State Museum at
Washington's Headquarters, Newburgh, N. Y.
that we are venturing to write you now. May
we not have the privilege and also the pleasure
of placing a letter from you, or if not that,
your autograph among those of the former

Very respectfully yours,

Washington's Headquarters in Newburgh.

While I am not fully conversant with all
the details of the plan, it does seem to me that
the proposed method of illumination will undoubt-
edly add to the attractiveness of this historic
building and I want to take this opportunity to
wish you every success in carrying it through.
Very sincerely yours,

My dear Col. McIntyre:
I have received your memorandum of June 14, transmitting
a letter from Mr. Walter O. Lloyd, concerning a proposal to
give outside illumination to Washington's Headquarters in New-
burgh.

As the community is assuming the financial cost that will
be involved, and as the proposed method of illumination will
undoubtedly add to the attractiveness of the historic building,
it seems to me that the plan outlined in Mr. Lloyd's letter is
a good one.
In accordance with your request, Mr. Lloyd's letter to
you is enclosed.
Sincerely yours,
Harold Peless
