Thank you for your letter. I was very honored to be
chosen by the Jaycees as one of the Ten Outstanding Young
Men. Joyce and I really enjoyed meeting you and Mary at
the awards ceremony. Your participation in the program
made it even more meaningful to me.
Sometime when it is convenient for you, I would like
to discuss the possibility of working together to develop
a television series on disabled people in society. This
could be both entertaining and educational. A variety of
topics and formats could be developed to address many
needs and interests in thoughtful and constructive ways.
I look forward to hearing from you soon. Good luck

that recognition such as that which I recently received
reflects not only one's own accomplishments, but also the
support of family, friends, and colleagues.

Dear John,
I appreciate the work that you, Gene Fromm, and the
rest of your staff did on the TOYM awards ceremony this
year. As you suggested, I am writing to request a copy of
the videotape segment which you developed about me. I
understand that Texaco may edit those segments for their
production, so I would like a copy of the one which was
used in Tulsa. The most useful format for me to use is
3/4" U/Matic. I would be glad to pay you for the tape or
other expenses, if they are not extraordinary.

really enjoyed meeting you last month, and I hope you will

Dear Dale,
Doesn't this letter head revive meny memories for all of us? He was
so proud of his company and of all his associates who helped make it
what it was. He was especially proud of you and of all that you have
accomplished, end I think it is all wrong for you to have to retire
just because you have reached a certain age for you could contribute
so much more to the industry in meny years more. But they did not ask
me or I would have expressed myself very much against any such policy.
Not obviously" but justifiably you are very proud of Lex end so are
we.We always knew Lex was exceptional even 8.5 a young boy but what he
has accomplished now is even more than we had 8 right to expect. He
continues to be an inspiration and through his efforts, he has given en-
courggement and shared his ootimism with no telling how many who had
need of that. I know he has fulfilled more than adequately the "Plan"
that he felt there wes for him in this world. While he was flat of his
back in the hospital in Oklahoma City, he said he knew there was 8 rea-
son why he was a victim of this accident. By his own life and by the
help and encouragement he has given others, he has done far more for
others to have a good life then he might have done otherwise. His at-
titude has been remarkeble from the very first, end he has kept the Faith.
I shall share these articles with my daughters and their femilies for they
are interested end impressed with Lex end his achivements. He is en in-
spiration to my grendsons. After they have read them, I pm going to send
them to Eleanor Vance for she is so interested in him and the wonderful
work he is doing. She can return them, naturally.
Dale Vence is now in Alaska for three years. He WES down this fall for a
hunt and to visit. de and his friends were with me part of the time. He
got off on the wrong foot for a time but he has made up for it and he is
another one I am proud of. Dale is 11 Senior Electronic Systems Engineer"
in the office of the Bureau of Land Management, under Mr Watts whom he does
not admire very much.
When David comes back to school at Sherman the last of this month, Claride
is driving down with him for a short visit. She was here in Aug ust but I
did not go up there this year since she and each of her sons had been with
me part of the summer. Naturally I am looking forward to her visit with
much pleasure. My girls and their families are wonderful to me; I could
not get elong without them. They are very solicitous of my welfare and I
reward them by being remarkably well, especially when you recall that I'll
be 88 this summer! And you talking about a mere 65111
My Christmes Poinsettia from the Friedens is still beautiful, shows no wear
and I've have enjoyed it every minute of the time, and remember each of you
with love and pleasure.

Dear Prof. Frieden,
Congratulations on being selected as one of the U.S. Jaycees"Ten Outstanding Young
Men of America." This is quite an honor and of one you must take great pride.
We manufacture a unique rehabilitation unit, the Buddy Safety Roller, that is the
only one of its kind in the world and the only one that can be adapted to a variety of
illnesses. It resembles a walker but works with a locking mechanism and seperate float-
ing disc brakes in each wheel. The dysfunctions which it accomodates are Multiple Sclero-
sis, Parapalegia, Parkinsonism, Cerebal Palsy, Amputees, Stroke Patients and many, many
more.
Enclosed please find a brochure and information pertaining to this unit and know that
you will find it fascinating and useful. The Buddy Safety Roller is a breakthrough in
medical technology and is real news to the professionals involved with rehabilitation and
the patients who now lack mobility.
Good luck in all your future endeavors and we look forward to hearing from you.

Dear Lex;
It was with great pleasure that we found the re-
cent articles concerning your honor by the U.S. Jaycees.
In looking back at our relationship in Tulsa a few years
ago we understand their appreciation of your talents.
You perservered over a hardship that many would have
found insurmountable and we admire you for that.
Athough the world has grown smaller and smaller,
it seems that friends drift apart easier now. We
regret the times we have failed to make connections
in Houston but we have always had you in our thoughts.
We belive that the U.S. Jaycees' assesment of you is
correct. You are one of the "TEN OUTSTANDING YOUNG

Best wishes and if you ever feel the need to
