Prior to his morning national security and intelligence briefings, the President played tennis with Chris Evert. Later in the morning, he spoke by telephone with President Carlos Salinas of Mexico, Prime Minister Brian Mulroney of Canada, and President Turgat Ozal of Turkey. Meetings with his domestic policy staff including Roger B. Porter followed. Before lunch, the President held his 71st news conference for members of the press. In the afternoon, the President spoke with President Francois Mitterand of France, and met with senior advisors to discuss the Highway Reauthorization Bill. In the evening after dinner, President Bush spoke with Margaret Thatcher and Walter H. Annenberg.
