The two defense ministers are visiting the United States for consultations on the Persian Gulf situation and the coalition efforts. Both ministers met with Secretary Cheney prior to their visit to the White House. The President thanked the ministers for their countries' efforts on behalf of the coalition, in particular, for the troops that they have stationed in the Gulf. The President reviewed Secretary Cheney and General Powell's visit to Saudi Arabia. He stated that the coalition effort is proceeding on schedule. The President noted that a decision for commencing the ground war would not be influenced by artificial timetables. The President also stated that his consultations on the Gulf situation will continue with coalition members. # # #
