Marge Wicklein will order 20 George Washington
Camp cups at $6.00 each. I told her it was
not necessary to look into a velvet presentatio
box since she explained sometimes it costs
more than the item. Do you want Dorothy
Downton to pay for these. She said she
could check with the RNC for payment since
they do have the seal and signature.
Do you want her to order the robin. Other
birds you may want to look at are a
baby blue jay, baby blue bird or fledging
red poll. She can send these over unless
you have decided on the robin.
She also wants to know if you want her to
look into an honorary American plate with
an eagle on it. Perhaps to use during the
Bi-Centennial.
Marge said it would be possible
to take the butterfly out of
the wood thrush's mouth if you
prefer that bird.

Here is the Jefferson Cup we talked about sometime ago.
In addition, enclosed is a George Washington Camp Cup. I have

box -- perhaps velvet lined. At the moment, these boxes are it
However, I could pursue a presentation box with another company.
I am also sending over for your consideration a Boehm

courtesy price is $20.

Enclosed are the two Presidential ladies pearl pins which we
discussed. For your information, the price of each at the
time of purchase was $59.83 and they were made by Balfour
Jewelers.
When I requested the inventory back in September 1974, there
were three ladies pearl pins. One of the three pins was given
to Janet Ford by Mildred Leonard, and you now have the other
two pins.
To the best of my knowledge, there are no other pearl pins in
stock. The other Vice Presidential items are being put together
and will be delivered to you very shortly.
If I can assist in any other way, please let me know.

Dear President and Mrs. Ford:
Mrs. Roy Hooker, formerly of 516 Storrs in Grand Rapids,
has asked me to present you with this Copeland English
soft paste china, which originally belonged to Senator
Arthur Vandenberg's mother.
Mrs. Hooker is a retired school teacher, 95 years young.
For many summers she ran a family-type resort called "Old
Trail". Many of her memories of the Vandenberg family
come from the happy times spent there with them. I am
enclosing a letter from Mrs. Hooker containing some of
her fond memories.
When Mrs. Hooker was packing up her belongings and closing
up her long time home on Storrs to go to live with her
nephew in Ohio, she wanted to pass the china on to someone
who would prize it. Because of the President's association
and friendship with Senator Vandenberg, she decided that it
should go to President and Mrs. Ford.
We have not had the china examined or appraised, but we
have been told that it was produced in England sometime
between 1847 and 1891.
Mrs. Hooker is now living with her nephew and his wife,
Mr. and Mrs. John C. Turner, at 391 Durfee Drive, Marion,
Ohio 43302.

Dear Mrs Richards:
In reply to your letter pertaining to the Vandenberg dishes, here are
some of the things that I recall about the dishes and the way I came
to have them.
My father-in-law, Charles B. Hooker, a native of Clyde, New York, and
Mrs. Vandenberg were early schoolmates and college friends in New York.
When she came to Grand Rapids as a bride, Father Hooker met her at the
train. That was the link that brought the families together.
The Vandenberg dishes were kept in Mother Vandenberg's home on Washington
Street and had been taken to the attic for safe keeping. When Mother
Vandenberg was ready to move, she sent for me to come to look over the
dishes. She asked me to go to the attic. I saw the dishes all spread
out on the attic floor. I looked them over carefully with great ad-
miration and joy. When I returned to give my report to her, she told me
they were for me to keep and use as a pre-wedding gift. That was the
summer of 1919 and I was married November 1, 1919.
The Vandenberg and Hooker families spent special days and holidays to-
gether through the years. The dishes were used for many and various
celebrations. One in particular started with oyster stew, followed by
possum and chicken dinner.
An early rembrance I have of our president, Gerald Ford, is when he was
FORD - Libuany

asked by his Mother to come to Old Trail for dinner. He didn't ant to
come because of a football game. Someway, I found out that he wesn't
interested in chicken for dinner. I recompensed by having a little
fish plank ready for him instead of the chicken. His stay was short,
but he did have a chance to shoot bow and arrow with Joe Donatus, the
master Indian, who was a part of the family links of Old Trail.
I have utmost confidence in your skill and concern.
Yours for keeps,
Crianna D Hooker-

Dear Miss Leonard:
When we were in Washington last fall with Dr. and Mrs. James
Ford, I talked with Mrs. Thomas Ford about a gift that I have
been entrusted with for the President. She suggested that I
contact you.
Orianna D. Hooker, a beautiful 95 year young lady, who has
a trust account with us, wants to give a set of Copeland
soft paste china, Circa 1847-1891, to the President. The
china belonged to Senator Arthur Vandenberg's mother. She
gave it to Mrs. Hooker years ago and it has been one of
Mrs. Hooker's prized possessions since that time.
Mrs. Hooker is a retired school teacher. She also ran a
family type resort called "Old Trail", that the Vandenberg's
used to visit. Now that she has closed her house here in
Grand Rapids and gone to Ohio, she would like to have us
send the china on to President Ford. We, of course, plan
to have the china professionally packed and will enclose
a letter to the President.
Will you please send me instructions for shipping. Thank
you very much.

Dear Mr. Forslund,
Thank you for your very thoughtful letter
regarding the beautiful Lincoln table that was
presented to the President on that rainy even-

your dark cherry finish with marble would be
lovely.
When you send the table, I think it would be

Dear Mrs. Howe:
Mr. Richard Ford, was kind enough to give me your name
as the liaison to the First Family.
When President Ford was last "home", we presented him
with one of our reproductions of American Furniture,
(photo enclosed). We would like to now ensure that the
Ford's have the finish, on this table, that they desire.
The table presented on that rainy evening was our dark
Forslund cherry, we also have this same Lincoln table
in our light Buckwheat finish if they prefer. Also, Mrs.
Howe; we have a handsome piece of marble that fits in the
inter cut of this reproduction.
We are most anxious to have President and Mrs. Ford possess
the finish they desire and also the marble. I'll await your
reply for further instructions.

Historical Lincoln Inauguration Table
The history of this table is one of the most fascinating stories of a table you ever read-
and every word is true! The original table began its way into history on March 4, 1865,
when it was discovered that there was no suitable place in the inaugural stand to lay the
oath-taking Bible for President Abraham Lincoln's second inauguration. Edward C.
Clark, an architect who was working in the Capitol, hurried over to his home and
brought back the small round table he had purchased when he moved to Washington. It
was placed within easy reach of President Lincoln and, in addition to the Bible, it held
the famous inaugural speech, "With malice toward none, with charity for all" Al-
though it has remained a possession of the Clark family, it has been used by every suc-
cessive President who took the oath on the east wing Capitol stand up to the late Presi-
dent Roosevelt and President Truman (now they use a telephone stand which seems a
shame).
This is a faithful replica in exact detail with the same identical turnings, shaped
scrolled feet, and inset top with its moulded rail. It is made of solid wild American cher-
ry, in Dark Forslund Cherry or Light Buckwheat Honey. Top 20 inches diameter; height

Dear Ms. Howe:
So nice to receive your kind letter regarding Mrs. Fords
selection of the marble for their Lincoln Table.
This piece of marble will come to you, as shown on our
enclosed copy; and it should fit right in the Ford's
table.
My wife Dortha and our two children, Laura and Jon and
I hope to visit Washington this Spring - our very first
trip. We all are so proud and thrilled that the Fords
are our First Family and also prayerful that their
direction will put our Country back in the front, both
morally and politically.
I sure appreciate your personal attention, Ms. Howe;
and a fine 1975 to you.
