PURPOSE\nThis swearing-in ceremony for 5 new members of the\nConsumer Advisory Council will provide an opportunity for\nyou to highlight further your consumer policies.\nII. BACKGROUND, PARTICIPANTS, AND PRESS PLAN\nA. Background:\nThe Consumer Advisory Council was established by\nExecutive order in 1971. It is composed of 12\ncitizen experts who are to advise the Director of\nthe Office of Consumer Affairs on consumer policy\nmatters. Many of the members are well-known\nnational consumer leaders.\nBeing sworn in today are 5 members that you have\nrecently appointed or reappointed.\nMrs. Knauer, who serves as Executive Secretary of the\nCouncil, will introduce to you the members to be\nsworn-in. You may then wish to make some remarks\nconcerning your recently announced consumer initia-\ntives.\nJohn Ratchford will administer the oath.\n-2-\nB.
