Digitized from Box 22 of the John Marsh Files at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library THE WHITE HOUSE WASHINGTON February 4, 1976 MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT FROM: MAX FRIEDERSDORF SUBJECT: The Milk Bill The Senate is scheduled to vote at 2 P.M. today on an override attempt of S.J. Res. 121 (Milk Bill). The Republican Whip check is as follows: Will vote to sustain Will Vote to override Undecided Tower Buckley Bill Scott Baker McClure Beall Case Scott (Pa.) Bellmon Domenici Young Brock Fannin Brooke Fong Curtis Garn Dole Goldwater Hatfield Griffin Helms Hansen Hruska Helms Javits Percy Laxalt Roth Packwood Thurmond Pearson Weicker Stevens Taft Absent Bartlett (in Angola) Mathias (in England) Schweiker -2- We believe our best chance to sustain is in the Senate because the Republican whip check in the House is very discouraging with 45 Yes, 47 No, 18 Undecided, and 20 no response. Secretary Butz is calling Senators McClure, Scott of Pa., Brock and Dole. We recommend the President call Senators Brock, if the Blackbird Bill is signed before 2 P.M. this would be a very good talking point; Senators Curtis, Hruska and Stevens. with JHT paiment And - TO trued and BEND mot the will LE 25018 1 too - w'll thing boby year blows wide NO because ML THE Adminis
