THE PRESIDENT HAS SEEN
December 20, 1975
TALKING POINTS: PRESIDENT ACCEPTS FIRST NATIONAL
BICENTENNIAL MEDAL, MONDAY, DECEMBER 22, 1975
1. It is a pleasure and a privilege to accept this first official
National Bicentennial Medal. It is a medal we can all cherish.
2. Besides being most handsome, the design is very
significant. It covers the essence of our national heritage --
"Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. 11 It is truly commem-
orative of our beginnings in 1776 and of our American independence.
3. I am pleased that this medal will be available in a number
of castings -- gold, silver, gold-plated and bronze -- so that all
Americans will have the opportunity of owning one.
4. It is gratifying to know that the purpose of the medal is not
only historic, but also practical: To raise funds for Bicentennial
projects and educational scholarship, which will further assure
Bicentennial commemoration in all parts of the nation I applaud
these worthwhile aims.
