FORD LIBHANA\nreason for name: it was the championship (city and state) South High\nFootball Team (grand rapids) in 1930 -- and the team had 30 members\ntotal.\nTotal of 52 team members and wives are planning to attend as of\nMonday night.\nThey have met every year since 1930 on Thanksgiving Day. It has\nalways been a breakfast, usually about 9 a.m. They used to meet\nat Hattem's Restaurant in Grand Rapids (Mose Hattem was a cheerleader\nat South). His restaurant closed and they started meeting at the\nPantlind Hotel about 1960.\nTheir custom was to have only the team emembers at the breakfast,\nexcept for every five years, when each member would bring his wife\nand kids. Next year is the \"five year¹¹ time, when the whole family\nwill be included.\nHow it got to the White House this year\nlast Thanksgiving, Art\nBrown (secy-treas of group) talked to the President and said that the\ngroup had been talking, and they thought it would be a lot cheaper\nfor the taxpayer if all of the 30-30 Club came to Washington instead\nof JF flying back to Grand Rapids (this was right at the time that there\nwas a great deal of criticism being leveled for excess use of jet fuel\nfor Presidential travel). JF said 'great!' and, since Fords still in\nAlexandria house, planned to have it at a hotel here. Then Congress\nstarted talking about the Damiral's House, and JF sent word that they'd\nlove to have it there. Then, in August after he became President, he\nhad someone on his staff call Art Brown and left the message 'not to\nworry -- the breakfast would still be held, but there'd have to be one\nchange -- in the place it would be.'\nPresident of the group is Harold Bosscher of Rockford, Mich; VP of\ngroup is JF; treas is Art Brown.\nThis is largest %age of members who've ever attended. Of the list, might\nwant to note:\n-Clifford Gettings, Grand Rapids, who was coach in 1930\n-Mr and Mrs. Edward Preston, who are coming from\nJohannesburg, South Africa\nDaniel P. Some brought wives and presents for the first\nfamily. Some did not.
