I have been looking forward to this day for months now -- ever since I received your invitation. One of the things I have greatly admired about the Anti-Defamation League is its broad scope. You make it clear you will not tolerate any type of bias. That your compassion and concern is for all who do not receive equal treatment. That your commitment is for equality for everyone. You have done an excellent job fighting discrimination. Your work is extremely important and it is very much appreciated. Your tribute to me, then, is especially meaningful because it is in this area of human relations, in the area of providing equal opportunity. I guess no one wonders by now where I stand on the equal rights amendment. I personally find it hard to believe it has not yet FORD a DEPART LIBRARY -2 been passed. I just hope that at this point in our country's history we can do something about that. The ERA is a must, because it insures equal opportunity for all. This year -- International Women's Year -- is a great time for all of us to rally our forces in organizing for it. And next year -- our bicentennial -- would be a great time to finish things up! What could be more perfect than to add such a significant amendment to our Constitution at the time we celebrate our 200th birthday! That is my goal -- and I hope you will make it your's too.
