THE WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON

MEMORANDUM FOR:
DOROTHY DOWNTON
Judy

FROM:
JUDY BERG-HANSEN
Director, Congressional Correspondence
It has come to our attention that Jan English, wife of Congressman
Glenn English, remembers the $1 bet on the Michigan/Oklahoma
game made during the White House Christmas dance.
August 17, 1976
Judy,
Last Saturday I discussed this matter with the President.
He suggested that I send to you the attached dollar bill
which he has signed for Mrs. English. Would you please
see that she receives it in payment for their bet. The
President said "I always pay my just debts."
Thanks for letting us know.
