1199 Pasadena Boulevard in Pasadena, Texas, as the "Jim Fonteno Post Office Building".
Mr. Fonteno, a Democrat, has served as County Commissioner in East Harris County,
Texas, since 1975. According to remarks made on the House floor, he is retiring at the end of
this year. Previously, he served as Port Commissioner, Port of Houston Authority, from 1970
until 1974 and municipal court judge for the city of Baytown, Texas, from 1957 to 1958.
H.R. 4717 passed the House by a vote of 415-0 and the Senate by unanimous consent.

To designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 1199 Pasadena
Boulevard in Pasadena, Texas, as the "Jim Fonteno Post Office Building".
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of
the United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. DESIGNATION.
The facility of the United States Postal Service located at
1199 Pasadena Boulevard in Pasadena, Texas, shall be known
and designated as the "Jim Fonteno Post Office Building".
SEC. 2. REFERENCES.
Any reference in a law, map, regulation, document, paper,
or other record of the United States to the facility referred to
in section 1 shall be deemed to be a reference to the "Jim Fonteno
Post Office Building".

Purpose of Legislation. These bills would honor numerous individuals, including
persons killed as the result of terrorist attacks on the United States, local and national
political figures, famous vocalists, and a letter carrier killed on his route by an assailant,
through the honorary designation of postal facilities.
2.
Position of the Postal Service. The Postal Service defers to Congress
concerning the honorary designation of postal buildings for notable public figures.
3.
Timing. No recommendation.
4.
Cost or Savings, No information.
5.
Recommendation Concerning Presidential Action. The Postal Service does not
object to approval of these bills by the President.
