Salaam, Mr. President
If I could say one thing to the president,
Before his guards pulled me away,
If I could say just one thing to the president,
This is what I would say:
I would say no more capitalism in the name of democracy,
No more exportation of our greed,
If I could say just one thing to the president,
No more trouncing the world for treasures, my words would surely be.
We already live on stolen land, Mr. President,
We have our debts to pay,
No more harm to other peoples,
That's what I would say.
No more building of nuclear weapons,
To foment hate around the world,
No more arming one side against another,
Or fueling strife, enmity, or discord.
No more violence in the name of Peace,
Or invasions of any sort,
No more exploitation of others' resources,
These evils dear president, please abort.
Our time here is limited, Mr. President,
And there is so much good we can do,
Spread peace and joy, unity and happiness,
To help God's light shine through.
Yes, if I could say just one thing to the president,
Which summarizes ALL that needs changing today,
The one word I would choose to utter is 'Salaam',
which means PEACE in every way.

Statement By the President
Dr. D. James Kennedy was a man of great vision, faith, and integrity. Under his
leadership, Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church of Florida developed from a
small group of worshipers in an elementary school cafeteria into one of America's
most prominent congregations. Dr. Kennedy's message of love and hope inspired
millions of Americans and others worldwide through the institutions he founded,
including Coral Ridge Ministries, Knox Theological Seminary, and Westminster
Academy. He was also a student of history and successful author who encouraged
Americans of faith to exercise their democratic freedoms and put their values into
practice. His legacy of grace and personal humility will continue
to influence hearts and lives.
Laura and I will pray for Anne, his wife of over 50 years, and the rest of the
Kennedy family.

Mr. President
My name is Larry W. Large. I am the father of Sgt. Bryan W. Large, 504 th Parachute
Infantry Regiment 82 nd Airborne Division. My son was killed in action on Oct 04 2005
in AI Haqlinia, Iraq while serving his country during combat operations. Bryan was a
proud soldier, a devoted father
(b)(6)
Bryan was
serving his third combat tour having served in Afghanistan in 2003, Iraq 2004, and Iraq
in 2005. My son was medic who served his country well, and was exactly where he
wanted to be on that day that has changed our families lives forever. Bryan was totally
committed to his country, his faith, his duty, his fellow servicemen, and his family.
I write today to ask for the opportunity to speak directly with you Mr. President. I have
no intentions of being critical of your polices. I would just like the opportunity to sit and
talk father to father. Mr. President I see so much on the news these days where you are
with so many people of different backgrounds and ideals and, not demeaning any of
these people, I can only think that they have not gone through what my family and I
have gone through. Our family has made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, for your
beliefs Mr. President, for our families beliefs, and for the betterment of The United
States of America.
I have given this letter to Senator Mike Dewine to give directly to you. Senator Dewine
was at my sons calling hours and has also written my sons story into the congressional
record. Politics aside, Mr. Dewine stepped up when our family needed that and we
deeply appreciate him stepping up again in delivering this letter directly to you. I hope
Mr. President that we can have that meeting. I will do whatever it takes to have this
happen. Thank you Mr. President for taking the time to read my request.
Below I have placed all of my contact information for your easy reference and I hope to
hear from you in the immediate future.
respectfully submitted

Dear President Bush,
Welcome back to Cincinnati.
Thank you for supporting Sen. DeWine. He has served us
well. He is also a compassionate person. Our family was
honored when he delivered the eulogy for our son. Sgt.
David Kreuter Lima 3/25 KIA 08/03/2005 Iraq. He and in
particular his aide, Ann 0' Donnell have been very
supportive. Our appreciation can't be adequately expressed
in words.
I'm still hoping I'll have the opportunity to meet with
you. It seems I get close and then "poof" nothing has
happened. I know you are more than extremely business with
world affairs and the election. I am more than willing to
visit DC for the meeting and I can come on a day's notice.
Or, next time you are in Cincinnati, I could take you to
Larosa's for a great pizza. I really feel like I'm
bothering you but until your department of scheduling tells
me there is no chance, I'm going to keep trying.
Please understand I am not a "Cindy Sheehan" but I do miss
David. You were his Commander.
I hope to have the opportunity to meet with you soon. I
hope your visit to Cincinnati was pleasant. One final note-

Ford's Theatre Lincoln Medal
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Ford's Theatre?
The site of one of the most significant events in American history, Ford's Theatre is the only
cultural landmark where diverse audiences of all ages can experience Abraham Lincoln's life,
legacy, and love of the performing arts. A historic stage for award-winning theatrical
productions and home to a museum that tells the story of Lincoln's last days, Ford's Theatre
connects us to the lasting effect of Lincoln's presidency, his untimely death, and what it means to
be an American.
What is the Ford's Theatre Lincoln Medal?
Ford's Theatre Lincoln Medal is an annual award given by Ford's Theatre to individuals who
through their body of work, accomplishments or personal attributes exemplify the lasting legacy,
and mettle of character embodied by the most beloved president in our Nation's history,
President Abraham Lincoln.
When and where is it awarded?
Traditionally, Ford's Theatre Lincoln Medal is given to recipients at the Ford's Theatre benefit
held annually in the theater where President Abraham Lincoln was shot on April 14, 1865.
As a kick off to the celebration of the Bicentennial of President Abraham Lincoln's birth in
February of 2009, the President and Mrs. Bush will host the Ford's Theatre Lincoln Medal award
ceremony and dinner at The White House on February 11, 2007.
What are the criteria used to select recipients?
Recipients of Ford's Theatre Lincoln Medal should illuminate or reflect Lincoln's legacy of
leadership, service, humanity, wisdom, eloquence and vision in their body of work,
accomplishments or personal attributes. As Ford's Theatre serves as a connection point and
reminder of Lincoln's legacy, so must the recipients of Ford's Theatre Lincoln Medal, helping
us understand the beloved 16th president's lasting impact in a contemporary light and how it
continues to inspire generations of Americans.
Who selects the recipients?
The Executive Committee of the Ford's Theatre Board evaluates and determines who will
receive the Ford's Theatre Lincoln Medal.
What does the medal look like?
Ford's Theatre Lincoln Medal is a sterling silver circular medal that is two and half inches in
diameter. On one side is a raised profile of President Abraham Lincoln with his name, birth and
death dates, February 12, 1809 to April 15, 1865. On the reverse is a raised illustration of Ford's
Theatre and its date of establishment, 1863.
Why and when was it established?
Ford's Theatre Lincoln Medal was first established to recognize individuals whose contributions
to the life of Ford's Theatre have had a profound impact on the institution and its mission. The
first Ford's Theatre Lincoln Medal was awarded in 1981 to North Dakota Senator Milton Young
who introduced legislation to renovate and refurbish Ford's Theatre.
Beginning with the 2007 Ford's Theatre Lincoln Medal and continuing through the Bicentennial
in 2009, Ford's Theatre will recognize those whose work has illuminated President Abraham
Lincoln's life, legacy, and death in unparalleled ways through scholarship or support of the
institution.
Why were David Herbert Donald and Doris Kearns Goodwin selected as the 2007 Ford's
Theatre Lincoln Medal recipients?
Acclaimed historians, scholars and authors David Herbert Donald and Doris Kearns Goodwin
have both authored definitive works on President Abraham Lincoln that have illuminated
President Abraham Lincoln's life, legacy, and death in unparalleled ways.
Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Dr. David Herbert Donald authored the acclaimed Lincoln,
considered the definitive biography of Abraham Lincoln. Donald was the first to tell the story of
Lincoln's life "as he saw it, making use only of the information and ideas that were available to
him at the time. My purpose was to explain rather than judge." Donald humanized Lincoln by
relying heavily on Lincoln's personal papers including manuscripts and thousands of letters that
came across the desk of the 16ᵗʰ president that until 1947 had sealed by the Library of Congress.
David's Lincoln allows the reader to see and feel what Lincoln saw in The White House during
the tumultuous times he served the nation. Donald has written over thirty books, including
Lincoln's Herndon, Lincoln Reconsidered and The Civil War and Reconstruction
Doris Kearns Goodwin is one of the leading historians of our time. Her New York Times
best-selling multiple biography, Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln
illuminates Lincoln's political genius as the prairie lawyer and one-term congressman rises from
obscurity to prevail over three nationally known and gifted rivals to become president. It profiles
the entire team of personal and political competitors that Lincoln assembled to lead the country
through its greatest crisis. Goodwin's Team of Rivals is a highly original and provocative work,
centered on how Lincoln's mastery of men shaped the most significant presidency in America's
history.
Who is Doris Kearns Goodwin?
Doris Kearns Goodwin won the Pulitzer Prize in history for No Ordinary Time: Franklin and
Eleanor Roosevelt: The Home Front in World War II, which was a bestseller in hardcover and
trade paper. She is also the author of the bestsellers Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of
Abraham Lincoln, Wait Till Next Year, The Fitzgeralds and the Kennedys, and Lyndon Johnson
and the American Dream. She worked as an assistant to President Lyndon Johnson and assisted
him on the preparation of his memoirs. She taught a course on the American Presidency at
Harvard University, where she received her Ph.D. in Government and was a Woodrow Wilson
Fellow. Ms. Goodwin serves as an NBC-TV news analyst and lectures around the world. She
lives in Concord, Massachusetts, with her husband, Richard Goodwin.
Who is David Herbert Donald?

My purpose was to explain rather than judge." Donald humanized Lincoln by
relying heavily on Lincoln's personal papers including manuscripts and thousands of letters that
came across the desk of the 16th president that until 1947 had sealed by the Library of Congress.

At our breakfast meeting on XXX, we discussed education for all,
and you invited me to write to you on how the US and UK might
work together on this important agenda.
The US under your leadership deserves greater credit for its
recognition of the importance of education, especially for girls, in
achieving the range of development goals. I was delighted when
you chose to announce your extra $500million for the African Girls
Education Initiative in the run up to Gleneagles.
I believe that by making further investments in education you can
build on this foundation to create a lasting legacy that, alongside
PEPFAR, can become the driving force for poverty reduction in
Africa. What is more this would be driven by self-generated
growth and enterprise, and not a permanent dependency on aid.
There are a number of reasons why education is key:
- As East Asia and more recently India and China have shown
education is essential to economic growth, supporting
enterprise, wealth creation and providing the skilled labour
force needed to attract investment.
- Education is one of the best ways of improving health
oucomes. Girls' education reduces child mortality and
reduces HIV/AIDS. In Swaziland, two thirds of teenage girls
in school are free from HIV, while two thirds of girls out of
school have HIV. A sustained education programme would
underpin the outcomes from PEPFAR.
- Education is necessary for well functioning, democratic and
accountable states based on meritocracy and opportunity for
all. If we are to require democracy from developing
countries, we should also help to enable it by investing in the
skills citizens need to hold their governments to account.
- Education helps us to tackle the spread of terrorism. Where
state provision of education does not exist, unaccountable
and undesirable institutions, like some of the maddrassas
which are spreading extremism, will fill the vaccuum.
Despite the progress that has been made, there are still nearly 80
million children worldwide who do not go to school. Nearly 60% of
these are girls. All are denied the most basic chance to reach their
potential.
Offering all children worldwide access to a basic education is
within our grasp. The costs are estimated at around $10 billion a
year by 2010. Shared internationally this is not a large investment:
only $10 a year per person in all the rich countries of the world.
The UK has already committed its share of the funds, by making
available $15 billion over 10 years which we will now allocate to
specific countries and programmes.
I appreciate your current budgetary constraints. A small but
consistent appropriation over a number of years could go a long
way, not least in leveraging the interest of other donors. The
European Commission are hosting a major education donor
conference in the Spring at which we hope many countries will be
persuaded to increase their funding for education. The US could
lead the way here.
Alternatively, but perhaps with less impact you could use some of
your existing funds, for example in the Millennium Challenge
Account, for education would also achieve a great deal. There is a
strong overlap between those countries which could use the
money well for education - and have sound, credible plans to
prove it - and those which are eligible for MCA funding.
Your leadership can play a crucial role here as catalyst to lever in
action from across the world. I am convinced that you could build
on initiatives such as the African Girls Education Initiative, and
make a real difference to the future of Africa and other developing
nations.
I welcome your thoughts and hope that we can work together on
this important issue.
