Having shown on his part the breadth of his great
sympathy and interest, the President can now see the
extent and depth of reciprocal popular love. It is safe
to say and it is a happiness to express it, that, subjected
to the most crucial tests, and ranking with the foremost of
our great Executives, he has, by his broad policies and the
beauty of his life, endeared himself to all the people to a
degree never excelled.
