copy DEPARTMENT OF STATE 598 72 ARCHIVES SERVICE* RECORDS 'NATIONAL AND = Memorandum of Conversation DATE: March 10, 1949 SUBJECT: Special Meeting of COAS in honor of Secretary of State PARTICIPANTS: Ambassador Enrique Corominas, Chairman of the COAS Dr. Alberto Lleras, Secretary General of the OAS Secretary Acheson Mr. Paul Daniels, Director for American Republic Affairs COPIES TO: 1-1493 Ambassador Corominas, accompanied by Dr. LLeras, called by appointment and delivered to the Secretary, on behalf of the Council of the Organization of American States, an invitation to be present at a special session of the Council to be held in his honor. Ambassador Coroninas added that he and the other Ambassadors accredited to the Council attached great importance to continuing support of the Organization of American States by President Truman and the Secretary of State. The Secretary said that he accepted the invitation with great pleasure, and that arrangements for the exact date could be made following Ambassador Corominas' return from Cuba, where he was proceeding at the end of the week. The Secretary added that he could assure the Ambassador of the deep interest of President Truman in the Organization of the American States, and the whole- hearted support of the United States Government; and that he would express the same assurances when he met with the Council at the special meeting which was being arranged. Ambassador Corominas said that, recognizing the interest and responsibility of the United States, he wished to assure the Secretary that, as Chairman of the Havana Committee on colonies, he would proceed with great caution and avoid actions which might have a disturbing effect, bearing in mind traditional friendly relations with the Western Hemisphere countries.
