I expressed my perm sonal gratification for the Ambassador's complimentary references to tha Department, and stated that I had hasrd a great many Savor- able coments about the goad work which he hns bean doing in liberia. Anbassador Dudley referred to the banate Appropriation Committee's unfavorable action en the Point Four appropriation, and said that be was greetly distarbad over this aetion which ent the $35,000,000 figure for Point Poux to (10,000,000. I assurad the Ambassador that I too was distressed over this action and that the Presidant regardad it as most unfortmate. I asid I had tal ked with the President this morning, and that plazs are now being formolated to sake a strong räght for the restoration of the $35,000,000 figure or an assunt in excess of $10,000,000. 1 pointed out that A regarded Liberia as the one country where are enz show the quickest resolts with Point Your technical assistance, principally becasse of our aconomie and pablic health missions which are already functioning within the contry.
