MEMORANDUM OF CONVERSATION
WITH THE PRESIDENT
8. ARCHIVES 'NATIONAL RECOROS SERVICE** AND
:
Item No. 1
Greek-Turkish Security Commitment
I recommended to the President that our caurse
on this matter should be to wait a few days to see
whether the l'aris talks were going to result in agree-
ment to hold a CFM, and, if that matter were not
rapidly brought to a conclusion, to begin confidential
talks with the British and French looking toward
a proposal to admit Gree: and Turkey to NATO. I pointed
out the need for some action in the very near future.
The President said that he had been giving
the matter a very geat deal of thought since our talk
last week on this subject, and that he approved the
course recommended.
