Secretary Acheson called Mr. Lovett this afternoon and
told him of the seriousness with which we viewed the
"Wherry Amendment" which was passed yesterday.
He told Mr. Lovett that a, group was meeting in Mr. Harri-
man's office today to consider the problem and that a
Colonel Moffat(?) was representing NME. The Secretary
said he hoped Mr. Lovett would take an interest in this
problem which had farreaching implications.
