Dear Dave:
Thank you very much indeed for your letter
of September 30. It is most generous and con-
siderate and makes me both happy and unhappy.
Surely the things that you ask can and would be
done. I shall be in touch with you further either
by note or when I see you in two or three weeks.
Is Schuman making progress on the European
army and on the larger project which we discussed
with him in Washington and to which you allude in
your note?
With deepest gratitude to Evangeline, as well
as to yourself, and with love to you both.
