269 September 8, 1952 MEETING WITH THE PRESIDENT Item 2. Egypt We discussed the week-end's development in Cairo. The President expressed some concern that this development might indicate that Egypt was proceeding with the formation of a military dictatorship. I said that we did not believe that one had to conclude this from the developments. It seemed to us that there was a healthy sign of a desire of the military group to get on with land and other reforms. We were making a statement which was intended to encourage this development. We would keep the President in touch. DA DE CLASSIFIED E. O. 11652, Sec. 3(E) and S(D) or (E) Dept. of State letter, 10-29-15 Bz N.T. He: NARS Date 11-29-26 S:DAchesomm CONFIDEATIAL
