MITCHELL, CLERK Honorable Edgar G. Hinde Postmaster Independence, Missouri Dear Edgar: Appreciated very much your letter of the Seventh, and I hope you won't take a permanent cure until I get home. I have had one or two successful sessions here, and one or two not so successful ones, but the budget is still in balance. Somebody asked me the other day how things were in Jackson County and I told them that there were just a few citizens there who had not been indicted, but I thought there was a chance to get them all before the Federal and State grand juries got through. Don't let Maurice Milligan get you. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch has been giving the Federal Housing both barrels here lately and reckon if they find out that Vivian is working for the Kansas City office they will get out another gun. Will be in Jefferson City the Twenty- second, but will be home Friday, the Seventeenth. My Battery Reunion, I think, will be Saturday night in Kansas City, and if you haven't anything better to do I will be glad to have you go along with me. I need a "stabilizing influence". Sincerely yours, Harry S. Truman ship HST/eb
