THE WHITE HOUSE WASHINGTON August 10, 1948 Personal and Confidential Dear Edgar: I appreciated very much your letter of the fifth and I suppose that matters will settle down in the County so we can take it into the Democratic column as usual. I don't understand Roger's approach to the political situation and I don't suppose I ever will understand it. When I took over the political organization in Jackson County in 1926, after Mike Pendergast died, none of the old friends of the organization were penalized or mistreated and that hasn't been the case since Roger took over. The result of the election shows how most of the people feel about it. He and Jim Pendergast have succeeded in breaking up the organization completely. Sometime or other, when I get through running the country, I think I'll come back and try to breathe a little life into it. Sincerely yours, Harry Honorable Edgar G.
