WASHINGTON
January 24, 1949
Dear Edgar:
I appreciated very much yours of the twenty-
first.
I was certainly sorry you weren't here. My
Battery "D" boys behaved wonderfully well.
In fact they surprised themselves, I think.
I had a fine breakfast with them and they pre-
sented me with a gold-headed cane, which is
a practical one because it isn't a round head
but a hook, as a cane ought to have. I shall
use it every morning when I walk.
I rather think maybe Margaret would make a
good Ambassador but she wants to be a singer
so I don't suppose I'll have any chance to
appoint her.
I hope to see you sometime before many seasons
pass.
Sincerely yours,
Honorable Edgar G. Hinde
