Hdqrs. Btry D 129th.F.A. Oct. 22nd.1918. About 19:30 P.M. an aeroplane circled above posi tion 18. It continued to hang above the position. Investigation was made to see if lights were visible at this position. At 20:00 hour rocket was reported for barrage. Before this barrage was finished a repeat was sent up. Firing was continued at two (2) rounds per minute until 20:25 when barrage was repeated. Rockets were going up continually. Tried to get confirmation by phone, and could not. Flare was dropped in front of battery position #22 at 21:25. Started third barrage at a rate of two (2) rounds per minute because of shortage of ammunition, at 21:40 when order to cease firing was given by Battalion Commander. The rate of fire could not be maintained on account of the guns over-heating. It is impossible to fire 33 rounds per minute with three (3) guns and allow one to cool.
