Memorandum: Notes on Artillery for the 70th Infantry Brigade. 105 The infantry shall be informed as to the Mission of the artillery.This mission includes; A. For the Light F. A. Barrage c.p. Reprisals. Harassing Fire. Prohibitive Fire. Fire on Fugitive targets. Neutralization. and 3 B.For the Heavy F. A. C.P. Counter Battery Reprisals Harrassing Fire. Prohibitive Fire Fire on fugitive Targets. The Infantry should know which Artillery units coveriong the different parts of their sector. They should know who has the authority to order the different kinds of fire and how to ask for same. The artillery should know which Infantry units cover their respective parts of the sector. The mission of the Light Field Artillery in this segment according nor m al to plan of defense of July 31st, established by the 35th Division provides for usual artiliery action on the Hilsenfirst region andoon the Kiosque region, also eventual action on the Mettle region. Eventual action on the Metzeral region will be provided for as soon as additional batteries are brought in position. This light Field artillery action includes the following kinds of fire: I. Barrages (mormal,reeforoed and eventual) in front of certain of our own fromt lines. They are fired by 75s or 65s at a certain rate for a period of 10 minutes, after which the fire ceases unless a new demand has been made in the meantime. a. The Hilsen region barrage includes; 1- normal barrage on the vhole hilsen front fired by most of the batteries in the segment. 2- Reenforced barrage on the whole Hilsen front reenforced by batteries firing normally on the Kiosque regions and batteries of adjoining seg- ments. 3- Reenforced barrage A - Fire ecncentrated on North part of the Hilsen region. 4- Reenforced Barrage B - Fire concentrated on South part of the Hilsen region. The normal barrage (1) is started by signals sent from Infantry 1st lines. These signals may be repeated by Bn or Regimental Commanders or they may request the barrage directly by projectors or by telephone. Any demand for barrage made by signals must be confirmed by telephone as soon as possible. The reenforced barrage (2), reenforced barrage A (3) and reenforced barrage B (4) are started by order of the Regimental Commander of the Light F.A. Regiment upon request from the Segment Inf. Brigade Commandero
