Artillery Mission, Translation of French Order

Headquarters 129th F. A. n American E. F. 28 August 1918 ARTILLERY MISSION. Translation of Order, (35th D.I.U.S. artillery) of 20 August 1918. PLAIT OF C.P. and BARRAGE FIRE. For the defense of the sector it has boem contemplated to use the fol- lowing fires: A-Normal Barrages to which correspond normal C.P. B-Reenforced Barrages to which correspond, reaeforced O.PS. d-aventual Barrages and C.FS. D-Concentration fires inside our own limes. As a rule normal barrages are fired automatically by the Light F.A. and Mountain Pel. Batteries (including the annex sections). C.P. fires are fired by Betteries of all calibers. The Heavy Artillery participate in the barrage fire, oither when ordered to do so by the Artillery Commander of the Segment (by the Art.C. of the Sub-Segment in energency cases) or on its ascord in aase of indications of a serious sttack. It will then fire its C.P. fire. RATE of PIRES, as Barrage. Period of 10 minutes duration 75 and 65 - Rapid fire of 6 R.P. G. and P.M. during 3° Slow 3 2° Slow 1 5 90 and 95 - Maximuon speed during 5 minutes. 1 R per platoon and minute during 5 minutes. These barrage periods are repeated on any new request. b. O.P. - period of 5 minutes duration. 75 and 65 - rate of five 5 R.P.G. and P.M. Hapid Firing Heavy Artillery - 2 R.P.G. and P.M. 90, 95, 155 Baquet, 120 maimum Rate. Re etition of the periods when ordered by Artillery Commander of the Segment (in case of emergency or trouble with liaison then ordered by Art. Commander of the SubwSegment. SEGMENT SUD The plan of defense of the Sector established by the 35th Inf.Div. (American) dated 31 July (para. 5) assign as principal zone of action of the South Segment Artillery: the HILSENFIRST region. The greatest number of batteries have been so placed as to accomplish the missiong Barrage HILSEN. only a few batteries in MITTLACH Valley) have another normal mission in the region of KIOSQUE: Barrage KIOSQUE with possibility (except for 1 Btry) for eventually reenforce the fire on the HILSEN.
