ECTOR OF SOMMEDIEUE Brought up to date of 8th infant cy October, 1918 396 478 st PLAN OF DEFENSE Defense of the 2nd Position. I. The second position placed under the commend of the colonel in command of the I.D. is marked by: East edges of the wood La CHATELAINE and SOFF, AMBLONVILLE Fme, CARREFOURTBERNATANT, ST. NICHOLAS WOOD, FORT de ROZELIER The works of DERAMEE, works of CROIX-BRANDIER, the fort de MOULAINVILLE, the work of XEIX, the fort de TAVANNES, FLEURY before DOUAMONT- II. It is dévided into two sub sectors extending towards the rear of sub-sectors (3) of the regiments on the line, and having the same denomination, each one of these subsectors being res- pectfully placed under the command or the coloness or the regi ments on the line (prescription of the D.I.C.) (a) Limits Limit between the suo sectors BOUEE and DERAMEE: ROMVAUX (to the DERAMEE sub sector ) point 9003 on the METZ road RAVIN des RENNES. Limit between the sub sectors DERAMEE and TAVANNES MOULAINVILLE (to the TAVANNES sub sector) point 5040, com- muniCation trench of la GIRONDE . (b) Organization in C.Rs. The BOUEE sub sector include the C.Rs: Amblonville Bernatant The DERAMEE sub sector comprises the C.R. Fontaines Ill. On account of the great extension of the front or the sector it is out of the question to have, in case or necessity, all the 2d position oscupied by the 3 battalions in reserve of Division It would thus be necessary to be limited to defend the most impor- tant point. Moreover as the General in command of the Sector might be oblig- ed to launch counterattacks on the resistance position, the repar- ation of the aforesaid battalions into the C.Rs of the 2d position cannot be effected as soon as the alert order is given. In case of alert, the battalions in reserve occupy an articulat- ed zone of assembling which permits. Either then immediate occupation of the 2di position (see below TRONAN of paragraph IV. Or then intervention by counter attack on the resistance position (see below paragraph V) Ge In all cases, as soon as the alert order is given, a graction of the reserve battalion (about 1/3 of the strength of every bat- talion) occupies the C.R. which is assigned to this battalion and forms its safety garrison. The zones of assembling will be: For the battalion of *k Les DOUZAINS: on both sides of the tranchee des BOUZAINS, at about the point where this way reaches the doubling of the Tranchee de Calonne.
