Dear Nelle:
I appreciated very much your letter of the
third enclosing me one from Mrs. Diemer,
which I am returning to you.
I really don't think manna should be con-
sidered for this honor on account of her age
for one thing and, because I as very much
afraid she wouldn't be able to make all the
ground and, if given to her, she would insist
on doing just that.
It was fine of Mrs. Diener to think of it,
of course, and I appreciate that very much but
I really think it would be too much of a strain
on manna and the newspaper folks would probably
make too much out of it so, I think, the best
thing is to just tell Mrs. Diener to pick out
a younger mother who has had a number of boys
in the army, and one who is in physical shape
to go through with the strenuous part of the
program which is necessary.
TRUMAN
Sincerely yours,
