WASHINGTON
June 13, 1946
Dear Ethel:
I am enclosing a letter from a lady in England
who is interested in the family connections.
I received some interesting information the
other day. One of our friends in London sent
me an oilcloth facsimile of a sign on the back
of a London streetcar. It said -
"If Its Truman's Its Best"
This sign referred to Truman's beer, which has
been famous in England, so I am told, since 1666,
when the brewery was founded by Benjaman Truman,
about the same time Johnny Walker distillery was
founded.
If you will remember, our records indicated that
a certain Ben Truman came to this country about
1666 - I wonder if this Ben Truman might not have
been a son of the famous British brewer - maybe
that is the reason that I don't like beer.
I am enclosing another letter from a gentleman
who signs himself as Editor of The World Almanac.
Now I don't think there is anything to all that
fancy name spelling that he has in there. It is
my opinion that our people came from the English
"Beer Baron".
Sincerely yours
Miss Ethel Noland
