U. S. Naval Base,
Key West, Florida,
November 17, 1948.
Dear General Fleming:
The President has asked me to acknowledge
your thoughtful letter of November 8th. He has read
very carefully this further report on the instability
of the White House fabric. Now that the work on re-
habilitation has been undertaken, the President will
bend every effort to see that a thoroughgoing is done.
The President appreciated your concern for
the safety of himself and the family. I am glad to
tell you that the decision to occupy the Blair House
has already been made and the President and his family
will live there upon return to Washington.
Very sincerely yours,
WILLIAM D. HASSETT,
