My dear Miss Sidenstricker:
Your letter of May twenty-second to the
President has been received. While the spirit of
helpfulness which prompted the request you make
is appreciated, I regret to say that commitments
of this kind cannot be made so far in advance, as
it is impossible to know just what emergencies
may arise demanding the President's attention.
If you will send to the President, in
my care, a memorandum regarding the plan to which
you refer, you may be sure that it will receive
most careful consideration.
