V. E. FRAZIER, M. D. 35 EAST MAIN STREET filed by MESA, ARIZONA JUN 18 1949 May 18, 1949 The President 286-A The White House Washington, D. C. Dear Mr. President; Ever since the days when you and I were fellow members of the Jefferson Democratic Club, and fellow Pendagrast employees I have followed your career with more than the ordinary interest. Until your most recent statement to the Congress insisting so strongly on socialized medicine I had felt that I knew your # mind and background fairly well. During the campaign I told people that irrespective of whatever else might be said I knew that certainly the Knasas City organization was never charged with communistic leanings, and I did not suspect you of such leanings either. Communism is a live issue in Arizona, you may feel sure. Lately, I have been invited to speak before several civic bodies on your, or as I refer to it the Lenin medical plan. It has never been said that I am a particularly capable or persua- sive public speaker, yet my remarks condeming your plan have been spontaneously and enthusiastically applauded. There was not the slightest doubt as to the attitude of my audience. Now, Mr. President, you are well aware that Arizona is a TRUMAN democratic state, but you should be advised that among the NATIONAL ARCHiV: AND middle class, with whom I come in contact, there has not been RECOROS 1 SERVICE E. an individual who considers that he voted for, or is now favor- COVERNATENT able to, any foreign idealogy, socialized medicine, treasury raiding, or similar "mandate". I have no direct interest in polities except as an individual citizen voter, and tax payer. I hold no office, would accept none if offered, and only want to continue in the private practive of medicine. And, most especially, I do not want to practice political medicine. Very truly yougs, V. E. Frazier M. D. VEF/jr X
