? 286- A En WHEREAS, the American veteren in two World Wars has defended the American free enterprise system, which has made possible the development in this country of the highest standards of medical care and the finest medical institutions attained by any major country in the world; and, WHEREAS, having experienced the shortcomings of impersonal, assembly-line medical care inherent in the form of Government- controlled medicine necessary in time of war, the veteran under- stands the dangers of imposing such a system permanently on the entire population; and, WEEREAS, Compulsory Health Insurance would impose en unjust tax on the veteran's paycheck for medical care to which he is now entitled free of charge as a reward for his service to his country: and, WHEREAS, Compulsory Health Insurance would force a tax of 3% on the income of the employed veteran, rising to a tax of at least 6% within a few years, creating new financial burdens which would increase the costs of necessities of life and lower the standard of living for veterans and other citizens; and, WHEREAS, the American Legion Auxiliary has always been interested in the welfare of the veterans, and whereas, it has always been our objective to foster and perpetuate a 100% Americanism this orgenization thinks that this measure is Socialism in its highest form and as Socialism is the first step to Communism, NOW, THEREFORE, + 64-A BE IT RESOLVED, That the American Legion Auxiliary, Murray Unit #420 does hereby go on record against any form of Compulsory hoslth Insurance or any system of political medicine designed for National bureaucratic control; That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the President of the United States, to each Senator and Representative from the State of OHIO , and that said Senators and Representatives be and are hereby respectfully requested to use every effort at their command to prevent the enactment of such legislation. 5.
