Foley, Adminis- trater, Housing and Home Finance Agency, re above. - 12/1/49, Mr. Connelly wrote to Mr. Magee (Dear Mr. Vagee), saying he has found that the matter he wrote about, that is appointments for the decennial census, are jealously guarded by the Congressmen as patronage for their om districts and that it has long been the custom not to interfere in those appointments. Says he had hoped to secure through Hon. Porter Hardy, Congressman from the 2nd Virginia District, an appointment for Mr. Magee as district census super- visor, but failed in this attempt. Says he is now writing to inquire whether it would be possible to secure for lir.
