The President has asked me to thank
you for your letter of September ninth urging
the appointment of Mr. Andrew T. Durbin as
Director of the Census. He appreciates your
thoughtfulness in letting him know of your high
estimate of Mr. Durbin's ability and integrity
and he wants me to assure you that your endorse-
ment will be given consideration.
