vote on cloture motion to bring up PRPO bill
(scheduled for Friday, May 19).

The following peogle, representing organizations
Interested in enactment of the PRPC bill, case in to see me
this afternoon: Nra. Ounther, ADA; Roy wilkins, NAACP, Ocorge
Weaver, CIO; Paul Sifton, United Auto Workers; and Arnold
Aaronson, National Community Relations Advisory ouncil.
The situation is as follows: It la expected that the
cloture motion will be made tomarros, Wednesday, and the vote
on it ie presently acheduled for Friday, May 19. Present indi-
cations are that 1f the vote le held Friday, there will be at
lesat 34 Republican votes for/cloture and 21 Democratic votes,
a total of at least 55, or 9 less than the 64 necessary.
The following Democratic Senators are not included
in the 21 and are possible votes for eloture, Senator Lucas
told hoy wilkine today:
Downey (in the hospital and probably too sick
to be present)
Froar (out West: Lucas has wired bin to return)
