5/18 Fill me Aopkins attached 2 memos for your information May 15, 1951 FILED BY 407-E MEMORANDUM MR. HOPKINS JUL 3 0 1951 X To: Dr. Varden Fuller, Executive Secretary From: Evelyn Rendall x This will let you know: 1. Mr. Frank K. Sanderson, Administrative Officer, The White House, sent to the Public Printer on May 4, 19h1, Printing and Binding Requisition No. 223 &-Lot covering 5,000 copies of Migratory Labor in American Agriculture (Part II), to be printed as specified, at a cost not to exceed $10,000.00. This legally obligates the $10,000 (provided in Allocation No. 51-17 dated April 23, 1951) to pay for the printing of Part II. Naturally, I couldn't give any descrip- tion of the publication nor the number of its pages. All of this you will be able to develop with Mr. J. W. Robinson, Assistant Director of Planning Service, Room 830, Building 3, Government Printing Office, North Capitol and If Streets, N. W., Washington, D. C. Telephone: Code 149, Extension 231. (Sterling 6840). Mr. Percy Nelson of the White House Staff (Mr. Sanderson's Office) has talked with Mr. Robinson and when you return to plan for the printing of Part II, you are to get in touch with Mr. Robinson. Dr. Van liecke has asked about the dis- tribution of Part II. I have told him I would seve the distribution list on Part I and this can be used as a guide. I will be glad to help on any of this in any way I can. For your information, my home address is 312 North Edison Street, Arlington 3, Virginia. Telephone: Glebe 2688. 2. The type for Part I of the Report has been destroyed and offset negatives are being kept. This method saves storage expense. Should the report ever be reprinted, minor corrections can be made. 3. I have telephoned to Mr. Stowe's office and to Mr. McCoy and find that Mr. Stowe has talked with the Assistant Secretary of Agriculture who has agreed 1 to finance Part II through June. Whereas their next fiscal year's budget is in question (note attached elipping), the Assistant Secretary has indicated that the amount needed for Part II is so small, that they will be able to pro- vide the money. Mr. McCoy will talk with the proper budget officer of Agri- culture within the next few days and he says someone from there will get in touch with me in connection with putting you and liss Berglund on the proper payrolls. As soon as I get these details, I will advise you. The figure discussed with Agriculture for the completion of Part II was four thousand dollars ($1500 for remainder of fiscal '51 and $2500 for fiscal #52. So far, none
