71/14/48 RESOLUTION WHEREAS: Attorney-General Clark has questioned the loyalty of the International Workers Order in violation of the Constitution and elementary democratic procedure; and WHEREAS: The purpose of this attempt at character assassination is to SOW distrust against a legally constituted fraternal ben- efit organization chartered by the State of New York, with license to operate in many other states, to which we have entrusted our insurance protection and fraternal and cultural welfare; and WHEREAS: This act is a deliberate distortion of the facts and maligns the true character of our organization which we, the members, have democratically built to further our fraternal needs, develop our cultural activities and interest and carry for- ward a civic program for the advancement of our communities and of American democracy, and to combat discrimination because of race, color, creed, language or national origin; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That Lodge No. 2016 of the International Workers Order assembled on Friday, January 9, 1948 at 2147 W. Chicago Avenue, Chicago, Illinois repudiates the false accusations and allegations of the Attorney General which violate the constitution and the Bill of Rights, which the Attorney-General has sworn to uphold; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That this action by the Attorney-General B a flagrant interference with our right to freedom of associa- tion and with our right to engage in the cooperative in- surance business as a legally constituted and chartered fraternal organization; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That we wholeheartedly endorse and support the General Council of the International Workers Order in all legal and other actions aimed at protecting the godd name, integrity and security of our organization, as well as the rescinding of the Attorney-General's list.
