"WE SEAMEN OF THE NATIONAL MARITIME UNION HERE IN PORTLAND
MAINE VIGOROUSLY PROTEST THE ALLOWING OF GERMAN MERCHANT
SEAMEN TO MAN AND SAIL THE SS EUROPA BACK TO UNITED STATES
WITH AMERICAN TROOPS AND WOUNDED WE FEEL THAT THIS IS TAKING
TOO BIG A RISK WITH AMERICAN LIVES BECAUSE OF NAZI SYMPATHIZERS
AND FORMER HITLER WORSHIPPERS HOPING YOU WILL PUT A STOP TO
THIS MOVE WE REMAIN."
