Oakland, Calif
I'm writing to you regarding the
recent drive on many of the liberals
(i.e., "un americans"to the purgers.). I think
the Un american activities Committee is
not only an annoying group of Congress
men trying to stir up a 1948 Campaign
issue, hut it is a disgrace to our
previously called "dimoeracy." On what
basis can they smear the ten writers
in Hollywood ? On no other basis,
evidently, than the writers' unwilling
ness to say if they had hundr are
affiliated with a Communica group.
I think that they are to he Commended
on not being intimidated by a 'hunch'
of ignorant Congressmen!
d believe that all U.S. citizens are
in danger of loving their Civil
liberties by ruch actions as the
Un-american Committee is enacting.
It seems that we are guaranteed
freedom of speech, Religion and Press"-
hut not freedom of thought!
