Former Ambassador Grew dalled stating he knew

the President was interested in the Katyn
Massacre hearings now being held on the Hill.
Yesterday there was a very dramatic hearing,
and the principal witness was Tadeusz Romer,

former Polish Ambassador to Russia. Romer
was a former colleague of Mr. Grew's in Tokyo
and is his house guest. He is a member of
the faculty of Magill University and is returning
there tomorrow.
Mr. Grew thought the President might like to have
Mr. Romer drop in for a few minutes today to pay
his respects.

P.S. Mr. Grew phoned back to say that he wanted
to state that, if the President did see Mr. Romer,
it would have a very fine effect on the Kremlin.
Mr. Romer has to go to the Hill again today, but
he will postpone his appearance if the President
will shake hands with him.
