Lubavitch in America was not content with merely one Yeshiva,
Graduates of the Central Lubavitcher Yeshivah in Brooklyn, N. Y. have
helped to establish branch Lubavitcher Yeshivoth in various communities
all over the country. Lubavitcher students hold aloft the banner of
Torah wherever they settle. They are imbued with that strong resolve
to continue our age old and eternal Jewish traditions and values in
this beloved and blessed America. The young men who have studied in
the Lubavitcher Yeshivoth arenot only Torah conscious and filled with a
spirit of self-sacrifice for Judaism, but are also pioneers for these
ideals. These intelligent young men rekindle the spark of Judaism in
the most distant Jewish communities and reawaken them to an active
participation in Jewish life,
The work of the UNITED LUBAVITCHER YESHIVOTH has given a greater
impetus to Traditional Judaism in our midst. These Yeshivoth have
also awakened others to greater efforts and more concrete activity in
Jewish Education and their responsibilities for the future of Judaism
in this country and other lands.
We, who are living in a most glorious period in the history of
the Jewish People and have been privileged to see the establishment of
the State of Israel, must now more than ever before devote ourselves
to the furtherance of Jewi sh religious education, the cornerstone of
Jewish life, which is most essential for the flourishing of Jewish life
in America and throughout the world. The future of Judaism in America
is now in our hands, and we must be ready to meet the demands of the
hour! Let us help to rear a new generation imbued with the highest
and best in Judaismi
Much has already been accomplished by our UNITED LUBAVITCHER
YESHIVOTH since that historic day, that memorable 19th of March 1940,
when the Lubavitcher Rabbi of blessed memory arrived in New York harbor.
The dreams of 1940 have become a reality in 1951. Unwilling to
compromise with adverse conditions, the Lubavitcher Rabbi proceeded to
found one Yeshivah after another, both elementary and advanced, on a
scale hitherto unheard of and which challenged the imagination,
The crown and glory of the UNITED LUBAVITCHER YESHIVOTH in the
United States is the Central Lubavitcher Yeshivah which was established
in March 1940 in Brooklyn, N. Y. It was granted its charter by the
Board of Regents of the New York State Education Department at Albany
on Jan. 17, 1941. Rabbinical Degrees (Semicha) are granted by its
Rabbinical Seminary upon the authorization empowered to it by the
New York State Education Department. This school is housed in a large
and imposing five story building located at Bedford Avenue corner Dean
Street in Brooklyn, N. Y. This edifice affords ample facilities for
classrooms, English and Hebrew Libraries, dormitories, gymnasium and
other accomodations. Students from all over the world, including
Israel, Canada, Europe, India and many countries of Iatin America are
in attendance at this Central Lubavitcher Yeshivah. Students from
various parts of the United States are pursuing advanced Jewish studies
at this Yeshivah. The more advanced students are preparing for the
Rabbinate. Many of our graduates now occupy important Rabbinical
positions throughout the world, The elementary division offers both
religious and secular instruction (8 years). The intermediate division
conducts a course of studies in Hebrew religious subjects and four years
of secular instruction in the English High School Department. About
98% of the students receive three meals daily at the Central Lubavitcher
Yeshivah, with only 14% paying for this service, In addition, clothing,
dormitory, medical and dental care are furnished to the needy students
free of charge.
