OCR Page 1 of 6From Mrs. Leslie Glenn, wife of the Rector of
St. Johns Episcopal Church where Mrs. Truman and
the President sometimes worship. Thanks the Pres.
for his message to the NAACP. Thinks it is tragic
that in Washington at least, the seat of govt. of
the nation, there should not be enforced equality;
that organizations cannot have conventions here
because the hotels will not accept their Negro
Delegates - the USES crowded with negro applicants
because Govt. is releasing them on basis of prejudice
instead of fairness; deplores lack of concern by
Govt. agencies in equal opportunities and asks the
President to make a statement about WASHINGTON as
strong as that he has just made about the Nation.
Says the so-called citizens of Washington are helpless
both colored and white - it would mean much if the
President would take acţion.
