Dear mr. Truman,
K
HARRI U.S. ARCHIVES GOVERNMEN SERVICE" RECORDS NATIONAL AND LIBRASY
December ?, 1950
In was with a feeling of disnoy Mal A read of your
letter to Mr. Paul Hume concerning his review of his
margaret Truman's recent concert.
A man, presumably big enough to hold the bighest
office this country has to offer, should be too big to
stoop to such vit uperation.
I can understand your unleappiness over such
criticism. a a father, you want, work than anything
in the world, your only daughter to he happy and
successful in her cleared career. But do you think
you help miss Truman's career by denouncing -
even threatening - the anthor of an unfavorable criticism ?
a music critic lear every right to report a concept
as is affected and appeared to lime. He has a duty,
if There are slort comings in an actist's telenique,
to point New out.
Face reality, mr. Truman. Miss Truman is not
yet a first-rate actist. Perhaps some day she
will he. But that day definitely has not arrived
as any rate, when an artist receives more unfavorable
than favorable comment, is is time for line to reconsider
seriously his choice of a career. H is difficult
to renounce The life work one Heought he wanted in
and was fitted fr. But professional or art it
mediority is tragic.
Sincerely yours,
Marie 8. Klima
