MEMORANDUM FOR: Secretary of State
FROM:
The President
Your memorandum of the nineteenth in regard to
floor space has brought matters to a head, I
think.
There is still a possibility that we may get our
improved office space for the President's office.
There seems to be an entirely different attitude
in the Senate now to what it was before.
I have been discussing with the Director of the
Budget the advisability of moving all the Military
into the Pentagon Building and turning over the
building where the Engineers are now located on
21st Street to the State Department. If the office
extension could be built for the President, of course,
the problems would all be considerably eased.
I'd like to talk with you and Harold Smith together
about the situation and see if we can't work it out
to the satisfaction of all concerned.
