March 28, 1952 Dear Senator: I appreciate most highly yours of the twenty- seventh regarding the White House construction program. I stayed in the White House last night for the first time since November 11, 1948. It is beautiful in- side and out. There is only one thing I am sorry about and that is, we did not get the Pennsylvania Avenue front changed so it would be in proportion with the whole building. It has been out of propor- tion ever since Andrew Jackson added the front row of columns to the porch but I suppose there is nothing we could do about it.
