4/29/49 - Copy to Secy, of State HST BRITISH EMBASSY WASHINGTON 27th April, 1949 Dear Mr President, You will remember that in a letter which he addressed to you on the 15th March last Mr. Attlee informed you of the meeting of Commonwealth Prime Ministers which it was proposed to hold in London in order to discuss the constitutional position of India within the British Commonwealth of Nations. In his letter the Prime Minister promised to keep you informed in due course of further developments. I now enclose a message from Mr. Attlee which I have just received from London with instructions to deliver it to you as soon as possible. You will see that the message describes the outcome of the meetings of the Commonwealth Prime Ministers. I understand that a press release on this subject will be issued at nine p.m. Washington time tonight. ARCHIVES 3.
