Dear Mr. Ambassador:
I certainly did appreciate your telegram and your
good letter of the eighth in regard to the visit of
Chile's Administrator of Economy.
I think he was happy at the reception he received
here and I tried to make it perfectly plain to him
that we had difficulties on the home front with
regard to copper but that I was very sympathetic
to Chile's position in that regard. I am glad he
felt that he had received a cordial hearing and fair
treatment.
It was certainly too bad that Bob Wagner had to
quit but he hasn't been in the Senate for three years
and I was glad he did quit rather than to hang on,as
Carter Glass did, and ruin the good reputation he
has as one of the greatest Senators of the New Deal
period.
I hope everything is going well with you.
Sincerely yours,
