MEMORANDUM FOR MR. HOPKINS
WHITE HOUSE
Attached is a copy of despatch No. 393 from the Embassy
at Santiago, dated September 28, 1951, which you may wish to
bring to the attention of the President. President González
Videla, of Chile, thanks President Truman for the sale of the
former USS "Brooklyn" and asks the Counselor of Embassy to
convey the message: "Tell President Truman that I want all
of Chile to know that he is a man of his word".
