DEPARTMENT OF STATE
WASHINGTON
April 28, 1945
MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT
Subject: Press Questions Concerning United
States Policy toward Italy.
The press has inquired if our policy toward Italy
has changed with the passing of President Roosevelt. I
understand that this question may be put to you in one
of your press conferences soon; consequently I submit
for your consideration a reply to such a question in
case you should wish to reaffirm the policy which this
Government has developed with respect to Italy since
the Italian surrender in September 1943. If you prefer
we can give the statement to the press here in reply to
the questions which have already been raised with us.
